DRAHLA TWELVE DIVISIONS OF THE DAY

Rising Leeds trio Drahla have just unleashed another phenomenal piece of abrasive yet melodic post-punk. ‘Twelve Divisions of the Day’ is the first taste of new music since their well-received 2017 EP Third Article and their first single for Brooklyn-based tastemaker label Captured Tracks. Channeling the good work of Shellac, Sonic Youth and even Ought (who we saw them supporting earlier this year), ‘Twelve Divisions of the Day’ pairs cutting bass with offbeat guitar twangs and relentless, driving drums. Titled on Spotify as 'Twelve Divisions of the Day - Black Ribbon Alternate Mix’, the b-side is also well worth a listen. Taking a more industrial synth-based approach to the original track’s wiry guitar-driven sound, it’s hard to decide which one we prefer. Luckily we don’t have to. -Holly Mullineaux
